What should I wear to my tattoo appointment?

A general rule of thumb is to be comfortable! Getting tattooed can potentially be a physically uncomfortable time, so comfy clothing is advisable. We always have privacy screens available at Cult, please advise your artist if you would like them to be used during your appointment. You’re welcome to bring a change of clothing to the studio to change in to if you are uncomfortable traveling to your appointment in the clothing you plan on getting tattooed in.

Your artist will need to have clear and direct access to the area you’re getting tattooed, so here are some clothing suggestions for different tattoo placements:

  • Sternum tattoos: A zip up hoodie, cardigan, or flannel/button down shirt, which can be worn open during the time you’re getting tattooed. Artist’s can also tape your clothing out of the way while they’re tattooing if needed.

  • Chest tattoos: Any strapless top, off the shoulder top, or singlet with loose straps that can be moved out of the artist’s way while tattooing. Even a button up shirt worn unbuttoned to the chest will work.

  • Upper Leg tattoos: Loose fitting shorts, skirts, or pants that can be pulled up and moved out of the way while the artist is tattooing.

  • Stomach & Rib tattoos: Loose fitting shirts or crop tops that can be rolled/taped up if required to allow the artist access to the area being tattooed.

  • Back tattoos: A zip up hoodie or button down shirt worn backwards.

  • Bum & Hip tattoos: Bottoms that can be untied (eg. bikini bottoms), underwear that allow access to the skin being tattooed (eg. a thong if the bum cheek is getting tattooed), a long t-shirt, or a sarong that can be moved out of the way so the artist can access the area being tattooed.
